I am looking to start a web based business, but cant decide what field?

March 6th, 2010 | by admin |

I have considered dating or personal support but every time i look at a business it seams it has already been done any ideas… what the web is lacking.

Hi Pen,
I don’t know you personally so it is difficult to give you ideas. I think to best we based business that you could start would be one that is centered around your interests/passions. The fallowing info is the things that I have learned to be important from the web host I use. If you would like to see some examples and help to understand ways to monetize. I would be happy to help.

Here are some tips:
Let’s review C T P M, the proven way to build any business online.
Content
Web users search for information, for solutions. They are not looking for you – they don’t know you (yet!). They seek what you know. Give it to them. Convert your knowledge into in-demand Content. To succeed online, start where they start – at "the search."

Traffic
Your topical content ranks high at the Search Engines (ex., Google, Yahoo! MSN), attracting free, targeted (i.e., interested), open-to-you visitors. Basically, these future customers "meet you" at your site. These visitors are known as "Traffic."

PREsell
Complete strangers develop trust and confidence in you. Why? You "PREsell" by OVERdelivering what they seek… relevant, original, information.

Deliver it in your own voice, in your own way. Go beyond merely instilling confidence… your visitors will like you.
(Immediate "selling" on Web sites is ineffective unless you have a brand like Amazon.)

Monetize
Convert warm, willing-to-buy ("PREsold") visitors into income. Called "Monetizing," this is the easy part. But "M" cannot happen if you fail to first execute C T P. This is where 99% of small businesses fail.

C T P is the motor that drives "M."

Once you have your own PREsold traffic, you are in control. Blend in multiple streams of revenue, not just one. Diversify to maximize income, growth and stability.

Start With A Primary Monetization Model
Then Diversify: Add New Income Streams

C T P M

Content builds Traffic, which is PREsold as you build your "brand of one." Then, and only then, are you ready to Monetize.

You deliver the hard part… PREsold traffic. Monetization is the easy part — it flows from a site with PREsold traffic the way electricity flows from a river through a dam.

And do not limit yourself. Too many small businesses start out thinking that they "want to be an affiliate," or sell hard goods through an "online store." Yes…

Do have a primary monetization model in mind — but plan to diversify into multiple streams of revenue to maximize income, growth and stability. Take full advantage of the PREsold traffic you develop.

The key is to eliminate "offline thinking." Recognize the fundamental reality of how people use the Web. Online, people look for Content.

Start there. Deliver Content, which builds Traffic, which is PREsold. Then and only then, are you ready to Monetize.

Hope this answered all your questions and helped to spark some ideas.

BEST WISHES!

Find something YOU are passionate about first. Then work from that list of things. If you are passionate about something you can do a better job than others doing the same thing because they might just be doing it to make money. If you are doing it because of a passion you have you are more likely to win in the end anyways.

You should come up with a list of ideas and do some research. This is a competitive field. I feel the best business may be one based on ebay because the infrastructure to sell is already there (albeit ebay takes a cut). At least the customers are already available. I’ve heard of people trying dating sites but with huge rivals spending millions of dollars, it has to be hard to get people to sign on. Yahoo has a Small Business section and I’m sure with enough research and exploring your own interests, you’ll find something that works. It may not even be your first attempt.

A good sign of a successful entrepreneur is the ability to come up with his own idea. I don’t think many dot-com moguls got their start asking a Yahoo Answers community "What should I do?" lol

Your thinking is flawed, don’t take this as an insult. Instead of thinking as a competitor, think as a creator. Think of the most creative way you can do your business don’t worry about if someone else is doing it, the world is huge and there is plenty of room for competition. Trying to come up with something unique is a waste of time, because you can’t keep up on what everyone is doing, it’s not humanly possible. Find something you are passionate about, have faith in it and start applying your creativity to it. You can do this………………

Most businesses on the internet that don’t sell anything are based on advertising. Given that it doens’t sound like you have anything to sell, and don’t have the inclination to get anything to sell, then you likely to be reliant on advertising income.

In which case all you need to do is create (or find) content.

    Hi, Pen T!

You’re right, most businesses you would start today have already been started.

But that’s no reason not to jump right in!

You see, there are PLENTY of ways to make money online:

Here are just a few of them:

    1. Make a website or blog on a topic that you know about.
Then, you sign up to AdSense and other PPC content sharers, and you make money when people click on your links.

    2. Sell an actual product
You can still make money by selling advertising space, but this way, you make money by selling a product.

    3. Sell a digital downloadable product.
Like an eBook or some other type of digital product. This way, you don’t have to deal with postage or anything like that. It’s like an online vending machine!

It’s really easy to set up websites like these. In fact, you can buy a website on eBay for very very little time or money, and start making money within a week or two of marketing your website!

Anyways, I hope this post helps you to see other avenues of making money online…

    Good luck!

    -Andy

P.S. (Just a thought) I just published a free book you can find at my website called "How to Start Your Own Online Vending Machine From Scratch In 10 Easy Steps" – it might help you out..
