Business tv: why online apps are the future of business

July 24th, 2010 | by admin |

More expert business advice from Google’s European Enterprise Director Roberto Solimene, as he explains how Google Apps works for businesses by eliminating unnecessary expenditure, problematic hardware and software, and effectively banks information to help companies succeed: “Again every kind of business is suitable for the use of Google Apps. Originally we thought that it would have been something more beneficial to small or medium sized organisation because they don’t have the funds, they don’t have the resources, and they don’t have the infrastructure to use a hosted service inside their organisation. But we are seeing them more and more that very large organisations are calling us just too just explore how they can use Apps inside their organisation whether it is for a division or whether it is for a specific kind of employee or for the organisation. But we are seeing that everybody now is interested in at least discovering what is on offer on this so called web to zero offering. The most exciting thing is that I save a lot of money; this is only the first of the things. I don’t need any more very complex infrastructure, I don’t need to buy a license for all my employees, I don’t need to buy spam services, I don’t need to buy servers, I don’t need to buy filters for viruses for example or servers for all that software. I don’t need to buy infrastructure for filing and archiving old documents and the mail that a company receives and so on. Just think about the saving

Still dont trust having all my sensitive files online only. I would at least need them backed up in physical form where I can get to them in the event i need.

Oh my god…working from home without the internet. I could not do that anymore. The internet can link into everything and anything and that’s what I love about it.

I think you should be able to download the apps, so you could have them stored on the hard drive, but it would link up to the online version so you can still share in the same way without the risk.

All makes good sense to me – there needs to be a bit more of a change in the way that people behave before this really kicks off. People still like to have things on their computer!

businesstvrebecca – you are absolutely right! Working from a home office would be near obsolete if it weren’t for the internet. I just want to know when the internet speed in NZ will compare with other Countries!

We will see many more apps come online over the next 10 years. I think the main issue here is bandwidth. The more bandwidth we have the more we will be able to do online.

This is absolutely true. The irony of it is that it’s often far more secure than it would be on their own servers and backed up in a way they often couldn’t afford to do.

There’s always the issue of trust that gets in the way of web based apps tho. a lot of people figure if their data isn’t on their office/home machine then it’s somehow more vulnerable.

This makes me wonder, what the next step up from Web based applications will be and how long will it take, before something like that comes up. The other thing, that is equally amazing is the brains behind these things – I sure would not mind a sneak peak into those brains!

So that makes me wonder, what would be the next step up from browser based applications and how long will it be,before something like that takes the internet by storm? And you know what’s even more amazing? The brains who come up with these ideas. I would love to have a peek into their brains lol!

Exactly businessadvice!… Every great ap I’m using revolves around web based aps. This has been a revolution for the way we do business – we’d be screwed with out it now!

And then there is the connectivity of the aps – like when I post this to my facebook
